Today marks the launch of Relay FM, an independent podcast network co-founded by Myke Hurley and Stephen Hackett. So why is this important?
Because it means my friends are back!
Sure, that might sound weird to say about people who you’ve never met in person and only occasionally speak to in passing on Twitter or Instagram, but I spend about 4 hours a week listening (and sometimes responding) to these guys.
On July 16th, Myke announced that he would be leaving 5by5 to start a new journey in which he would be stopping his current shows. I’ll admit, I may have had a small panic attack. This meant that CMD+Space, The Prompt and The Pen Addict were all going away. Three of my favorite shows! We’ll that worry was quickly put aside when Myke said that the shows would be getting a reboot. Now, fast forward four weeks and I’m a happy camper.
While visiting my sister-in-law in Chicago my curiosity got the best of me and I leaned over the railing of one of the basement floors to snap this pic. Steph actually looked down from the top. No way I was going to do that!
It made my stomach turn looking up. I can’t imagine what it would have been like looking down. This kid hates heights…

OK, I think I can finally admit that I have a pen obsession. The latest one I’ve added to my collection is the Kaweco AL Sport Fountain Pen with a fine nib. This pen is perfect for carrying in your pants pocket and with the way it screws closed you don’t have to worry about getting a pocket full of ink.
I have to give Mike Dudek a shout out for pushing me over the edge on this one. I’m definitely not disappointed. It has also been upgraded to an EDC right along with my Tactile Turn Mover.
When I purchased the pen it had a medium nib, but I was able to pick up a fine nib at jetpens.com. Typically the Kaweco Sport line is a cartridge fill so I also picked up a converter. Right now I have it inked up with Pilot Iroshizuku Take-sumi which has a nice deep charcoal look to it.
So far I absolutely love this thing and its size makes it easily portable so I’ll probably have it on me most of the time. If you have any questions about it or see me out and about and want to try it just let me know. Happy writing!
I’ve always had a thing for violins and cellos so whenever I stumbled on Lindsey Sterling’s music I was an instant fan. She has this crazy mix of classical violinist meets hip-hop and dubstep. If you’ve got a second I highly recommend that you give it a listen.
Last week her new album Shatter Me was released and it picked up right where her self titled album left off. Lindsey has also featured in quite a few other artist’s works as well. I personally love her version of Thrift Shop with Tyler Ward. Anyway, check her out!

I’ve been waiting weeks to get my
hands taste buds on the new Taco Bell breakfast items. Today marked the first day they were available so we did what any sensible person would do. Ordered three of everything!
Apparently we’re lucky we got what we did because some places sold out. (Probably because of people like us)
My anticipation grew as I waited for Brent to arrive at the office with these bags of deliciousness. Once he made it in we huddled around the table like it was Christmas morning. Then the carnage began…
We all tried everything. We were stuffed, lethargic, and in that all too familiar fast food coma. Was it everything we dreamed? Probably not, but damn it, I got my waffle taco!
Now let’s try to have a productive day…
working in the web industry, I’m always curious to see what trends are next. Here’s a nice list of stuff to watch.
This year has been a brilliant year in web design. Let’s have a look at some of what we can expect for the future of web design as an industry.
As the year comes to a close I find myself enjoying the peace and quiet of my dining room, looking through my Field Note from December and enjoying a fine adult beverage provided by my good friend Mr. Brent Feldman. Nights like this don’t come very often anymore, but it’s nice to sit back and relax when they do.
